Son's Chances??

Son a junior in excellent public high school in MA. Has a 4.7 weighted GPA (out of 6.0) -- have no idea how this translates on the 4.0 scale but he is a B student, having taken 3/4 of his classes at the Advanced level. Will take 3 APs next year (Bio, Stats, Latin); President of Latin Club; varsity golf and crew; few other clubs at school throughout high school and has done a bit of volunteering.

School doesn't rank but he's in top 30% (75/260).

SATs: 700M, 620CR, 520W -- will take again in June. How much does the Writing section actually count?

Also, not applying for financial aid -- does this even matter?

Anyone out there with honest opinion would be most appreciated! Thanks.

you posted on the villanova board too right? I just got into both, two great schools.

looks good, but can't be too sure. Good luck

Yes, justbumming! You'll have to change your name now! So happy for you that you got into both 'Nova and Union -- you must be thrilled! Mind if you give me your stats so I can obsess even more?

We haven't visited either school but will do so in the next few months -- which one do you think you're leaning towards?

Remember: His 4.7 GPA is on a 6.0 scale -- it averages out to about a "B"

Well the thing is, I haven't visited Nova but I have visited Union. I LOVED Union's campus; I felt like out of all the schools I visited I would fit best there. However, I'm still waiting to hear back from my number one (Notre Dame, legacy status prob helps and parent worked/taught there too) so it all depends on that. I doubt I will end up going, Union is really small and pretty close to home.

I would say out of Nova and Union, you're S would have a better chance at Union, and if you visited, hopefully you'd love it as much as I do! Good luck and thanks for the congratulations!
