So today is the day my son's school notified him that he is a National Merit Semi-finalist. He's supposed to log in and fill out information. Is that it?

He needs to complete the application and take the SAT if he hasn’t yet. Also, I’d be sure the school knows they have to complete things on their. Some schools are on top of that, others are not. Congratulations to your son.

Congratulations! Just have him log in to the NM website listed in the letter and fill out all the information they want. Then you have to log in to the parent consent site and give your consent. (It will not take long.)

Your DS needs to take the SAT for a confirming score if he hasn’t already done so and then nag the CG starting in a week or so because they ahve to fill out some info stating what a great kid your DS is. Best of luck with the college apps.!

DS, a NMSF, hasn’t gotten anything from his school. Do they need to give him the information to do so or will the National Merit Corporation send something to our home?

momfromme…The paperwork comes from the school. Nothing is sent to your home directly. You need to get with the counselor and/or principal and see where the paperwork is. It has the information he needs to log on and complete the application.

DS took the SAT and got a great score. We’re good as far as that goes. So now I have to nag him to get him to get into the site. What a pain!

Your son still has to fill out some application stuff on the site and write an essay (I just used my Common App essay for mine) if he wants to be a finalist. It’s not too selective once you’re already a semifinalist. Last year, my school had 10 semifinalists and 9 made it to finalist. I kinda wonder what happened to the other guy… Maybe his essay was really bad, or he just didn’t turn in paperwork on time.
