Puerto Ricans get their category because Puerto Rico is an American territory.

wow
10 char

^^^ And now he’s quit politics again but SPOILER ALERT, HIGHLIGHT TO SEE they killed him off, so there’s no way for Kutner to come back.

Meh. I guess…idk…It feels like we’re better looked upon at Britain than USA…maybe because we haven’t stuck around America longer?

Well, people do think of Chinese ppl when people see “Asian” (By people I mean the general American population…which isn’t exactly as educated and knowledgeable as CC population). Europeans come to mind when people see “white.”

But what about Middle Eastern and Indians? Those don’t come to mind when people say “Asian”…and there are no separate distinguishing categories for them.

I’m not trying to freak out, but its more of a concern. Its not fair you know? I’m not sure how else to explain it.

I am reading The Namesake right now.

^Is that the book about the schizophrenic Indian guy?

Well, take a look at this crude senario. A family devises a present box for the family members to put presents from Santa in.
The family consists of Paul (Dad) and Emma (Mom)
They have two sons (Jared and Dave)
They have two daughters (Rachel and Brianna)

Mom makes the present boxes…she makes 5 boxes labled the following:
Paul’s Box
Emma’s Box
Jared’s Box
Dave’s Box
The Daughters’ Box

I mean one can argue the labels make sense, but come on…you see what I mean about fair representation?

i am reading sidney sheldons memories of midnite…
i think we should have our own INDIAN category .
thats my opinion and i stick by it

i get it john…were on the same page

I think you guys are getting a little too worked about this Indian vs. Oriental thing.

I don’t understand the need for a separate “Indian” character. How exactly does it make a difference?

Anyways usually if you here South Asian you know they’re Indian.

I’m still kind of confused on the whole argument actually. Someone care to summarize it for me?

Yeah, it’s not like people say “Indians are so lame, they don’t even have a separate section under ‘race’ on the SAT”

Edit: Agree with V

Is it just me or is this the stupidest thread ever? I realize I am jump bumping this…but let’s end this thread.

All the indians I know are very intelligent, nice individuals regardless of what category you put them in. They are people. White, black, african, european, asian, hispanic, etc they’re all just labels.

*& i know an indian girl from south india(i think she said it was called kerala or something) and she’s light-skinned with hazel eyes, graduating at the top of her class and going to caltech or stanford so please don’t stereotype cause i’m not even indian and its hurtful :/

All the indians I know are very intelligent, nice individuals regardless of what category you put them in. They are people. White, black, african, european, asian, hispanic, etc they’re all just labels.

True that

Why is this threa still alive?

slumdog millionaire was a good movie.

yes good movie, but somewhat offending I guess

^okay…I don’t want to continue this thread…but offending? really? I do not get that at all.

yeah, well because some parts in that movie made India like a bad country, like that kid jumping into the mud, i think that was something else, but it was disgusting to get the guys autograph. that was unnecessary. other than it was good movie.

^America is portrayed in negative ways all the time. Is India perfect? I don’t think so. Neither is any country.

Just because a portrayal has “bad” aspects doesn’t mean it’s offensive.

And it the mud (which wasn’t mud…) was more about the kid’s desire to get the photograph than it was about the country (until you said this, I only thought about his desire, never the country’s septic issues).

Ok let’s be honest, the Ganges River is holy water which is now pretty much sewage that people bathe in. Obviously there are plenty of septic issues…
