eastafrobeauty haha Indian culture is colorful, food and movies two of the many things cool about the Indian culture.

im thru with standnig in line in clubs ill never get in

^HarveyLewis isn’t sure how to compute an answer from your input.

I can’t believe this thread went to such waste…

I guess my primary concern was that when people say Asian, they don’t think of Indians at all. They instead think of Chinese, Japanese, Fillipino, Koreans, etc (All have similar facial features regarding eyes, nose, mouth, skull structure, etc).

But when people say “Indian” the general media always assume Native Americans.

It kinda ticks me off sometimes. I mean I believe we need a separate, unique identity. But oh, we can have “East Indian”

Truthfully, I think that’s stupid. They don’t say “East Chinese” or “East European”

Well, there isn’t another people called “Chinese”. So =/.

But any Native Americans here? What do you want to be called? Would you prefer Indian, Native American, or your nation name? If it’s anything but Indian, then it seems that the world is just forcing on you a name, which you should protest.

Of course, if you want to be called Indians, that’s fine too. Who wouldn’t? xD

I like Chicken Tikka Masala, don’t hurt me.

^^Exactly. I’m glad you understand :)

okay lets call us indian from now on…
THe great INDIAN revolution
i like chicken tikka masala tooo

@MattNC I was sarcastic about the Hitler comment.

I like Chicken Tikka Masala, don’t hurt me.

why would people hurt you?

this thread is ■■■■■■■■

How about sub Asian?

India is a subcontinent of Asia.
Ergo, Indians are sub Asians.

^Sounds too “lesser” for my liking

Wow how could I have overlooked this thread? Well although it is a “controversial” question, yes, Indians are classified as Asians… Yet some people just don’t get it. Though on the other hand, it would be pretty cool to have our own category.

Our school had us fill out our AP testing forms…and I was completely appalled.

These were the choices as I remember on the top of my head.

. American Indian or Native Alaskan
. Asian, Asian American or Pacific Islander
. African American
. Mexican or Mexican American
. Puerto Rican (wth?? Aren’t Puerto Ricans Hispanics? WHY do they get a separate category?)
. Hispanics, Latino (Don’t Mexicans fall in this category?)
. White
. Other

I was pretty disappointed. I chose “Other.”

Indians are a very important part of America’s economy and in the academic world in general. I think we deserve some recognition. You don’t see Indians in many movies (Take Mission Impossible 3…Tom Cruise’s team consisted of one white dude (himself), one black dude, an Asian (Chinese) female, and a Hispanic dude.)
You don’t see Indians in much of the media. You don’t see Indians in MTV…fine.
But now Indians don’t have a respectable category?? That’s just taking it too far.

When people say “Asian” they think of people of Mongoloid decent (Chinese, Japanese, etc). When people legitly say Indian, they think of Natives.

Its just so disappointing.

Not true, that’s just your perception John. Just because we don’'t have a separate cateogry doesn’t mean we are not recognized. And identity doesn’t come from the check box on a form.

^^But there was Harold and Kumar go to White Castle!!!

I’m kidding.

^^^And there’s that one Indian dude(Kal Penn <3) in House M.D.

Indian is part of the Asian race. You are recognized. There’s no separate check box for the Chinese or European people either.

There’s really no need to freak out about this.

^^Not anymore :(. He left to work in, like, politics.

He’s sort of a bad example, since he’s the same person as Kumar and since he had to change his name (Kal Pen is actually Kalpen Modi, I believe) in order to get work as an actor. But he is a very cool guy.
