Soon to be a Veteran Student.

Hello Everyone,

Any veteran students here?

I'm currently Active Duty in DC right now but I've been accepted to CCNY for Spring '11 and my enlistment is up in February.

I have earned 100% of the 9/11 GI Bill and so that is all squared away. My only question is about getting the DD 214 in time to the VA and the school.

** My biggest question is housing. If you're a current student where did you find housing? Is the Towers worth it? My benefit allots for ~$2,800 a month for living expenses. Anyone need a roommate?

Thanks!

Tower is too expensive.
I would recommend looking housing close to CCNY. You can visit CCNY’s student housing. I can provide the information later (within this week).

The first question - I have no idea. I can ask my veteran classmates. Your best bet, however, is to call the VA affairs at CCNY directly.

Good lord the 9/11 GI bill is amazing. I graduated three years ago from CCNY and the living expenses were only $750 back then…

I lived in the towers for a year. Made a few good friends but mostly hated it and got my own place as soon as I could. You’re bringing in more than enough money tax free to find your own place. That’s what I would do.

Also get to know the key people at the financial aid office. They tend to screw up vet’s paperwork a lot and you’ll probably be in their office once or twice a semester. It will make things more smooth if you have a relationship with them and they know who you are personally.
