Hey guys, I am currently an 8th grader and I will be a Freshman in August. I wish to after college be able to attend MIT.
My freshman classes will be the following
-Honors English I
-Honors Algebra I
-Honors Biology I
-Theatre Arts
-Introduction to Business and Marketing
-Wellness
I hope to major in Computer Science and I plan to double up Sophomore year on Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II so I can take Calculus senior year.
Can you give me some tips as to things I can start planning to do now to improve my chances of getting into MIT? Other than just taking all the hardest classes, getting good grades, EC, etc.
Get good grades. Take the hardest classes. Score extremely well on SAT/ACT. And find something that your really passionate about that you can commit a lot of time to whether that be a leadership position (even if its not this its good to have some sort of leadership position because they like leadership), community service that you take a lot of time in, or really anything that will separate you. Get involved in EC’s and then decide what you want to pursue deeper. Make yourself interesting. If your an EC stuffer and never do something more seriously they will see through that.
Also - don’t be set on MIT. There will be brilliant kids that are accepted to Harvard and Stanford but MIT doesn’t accept. At some point its out of your hands, and going to another school than MIT isn’t going to mean anything for your future. What college you go to matters little, what you do and learn in college matters more.
