I've decided to go Pre-Med at UCR this coming fall. Would it be a good idea to major in Psychology and then take all the Biology classes? I'm a tad bit lost about this whole situation and I'm doing a lot of research. How do I go about looking for Hospitals to volunteer or help at? When should I be doing that? Any points and suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You should major in whatever you are most interested in. If that is psychology, then major in it. Just make sure you take all of the premed requirements along with your major's courses. If your school has a hospital nearby, and you think you can handle it, then you should try and volunteer at a hospital during the semester. Otherwise, you can always wait until the summer.

Dear Friend,

Usually, at most universities they have a health careers center where there will be friendly people to set you up with volunteer opportunities. And like Jake said, you should choose a major based on your individual interests, not how you think it would appeal to medical schools. In other words, choose a major you would do without consideration to how it would influence your future prospects. But then again, it is always nice to have a "plan B" just in case. Good luck.
