sooo..

how much does it help if i’m not asking for FA and im a first generation?
are those two hooks? i know being a first generation is… but not requesting for FA?

BC is completely need-blind, so no, it will not help.

First generation may help, but of course, the most important factors to your acceptance are usually your grades. Focus on that.

oh okay thanks. i have my apps sent out but i wasnt sure of the whole FA thing.

I read an article a while back (the article itself was a few years old) stating that no need-blind college will hold it against you that you can’t pay. But the article described not needing financial aid as a “fringe qualification” - something that won’t really tip the scales but is definitely a plus on your app. The reality is while college and universities are trying to keep their doors open to as many purely qualified candidates they can take, they have to accept at least a small percentage of students that can and will pay the full tuition, room and board, etc.

First gen is a plus factor, but doesn’t count as a “hook”.

alright, thanks guys =)

I wondered about this too. I assume that colleges are telling the truth when they say that they are “need blind” and that the admissions committee doesn’t see your full financial profile but if an applicant answered “No” to the question on the Common App that says “Will you be applying for financial aid?”, that must at least be seen by the admissions people.
