I want to go to grad school to get a masters and I have no interest in an academic career. How should I go about explaining that my main interest in attending grad school is to learn more about my field so that it will help me in my future job?

I don't have much interest in research and writing a thesis, so will I just get out-right rejected? BTW, I'm in engineering.

That’s exactly what you say. There are plenty of engineering master’s programs out there that aren’t research-oriented; look for the ones that do not have thesis requirements. Schools won’t look down on you for setting your goals on industry rather than academia, although it does pay to have some research experience to make you a more competitive applicant

Yeah a terminal masters degree is definitely what you’re looking for. That type of attitude is what they expect in their students who are seeking a terminal masters.
