Sophie Davis Pgm.

regular snail mail

when do they stop giving interview dates?
Can anyone give me interview tips or specific questions asked?
To anyone in the program: How is the workload? Is there any free time? I heard many people drop out of the program because it is too hard.

Interview tips - be yourself. They ask nothing hard, so don't worry. JUST KNOW YOUR ESSAYS

Lol.. at my student interview, i asked about the workload and the student said that out of the original 70-80 freshman class, only 20 were left in his year (year 6).
On the upside, you do get second chances to retake classes you've failed. The student interviewer told me there were a couple of kids who were at sophie for 8-9 years. o_o

uhh that doesnt make any sense...cuz you only stay at sophie for 5 years...then transfer out to a med school..

how did you get a student interviewer who was in his/her sixth year? unless they stayed an extra year..

LEISA you must be mistaken - it must be that the student was in year 5 going into 6, and that 20 people dropped not 20 people left.

20 people dropped makes more sense. 20 left would be horrendous.

today was the last day of interviews. last year, people found out on the 27th, and the year before that on the 28th. anyone else nervous? I got my placement test for CCNY tomorrow...

They need to hurry up! I have a deadline of 3/31 for my # 2 (or at this point my 1B) medical program. If I somehow get in this is going to be a tough choice, but I won't complain

A deadline of 3/31? that sucks. What school is it, maybe we can help you decide quickly. What are the pros and cons of that program as compared to this one?

I HOPE I GET IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dude..i cant wait anymore.

It's Brooklyn College's BA/MD Program. From speaking with students at both schools I would have to say the pros at Brooklyn are that its a little less stressful in terms of daily class pressure, and theres more flexibility in the schedule. Plus I received a full scholarship along with a few perks including a free laptop.
The cons I would have to say is that its an 8 year program instead of the 7 years at Sophie Davis and I'd have to take an MCAT and get a 27 (which apparently is below average) to keep my guaranteed spot at SUNY Downstate.

Petals, I know how you feel.

Metsfan - It comes down to what you value - A little less stress (but having to take the MCAT = big stress) or more stress but saving a year, and a chance at more renowned med schools. Downstate is really good, don't tkae me wrong, but compared to NYU its a different league. Also, the full scholarship but, are you given the scholarship for the med school years as well? because if not, I would suggest SD because 4k a year isn't much.

hey metsfan....when did you hear from BAMD??
I interviewed there also, and havent heard back yet...

Its definitely going to be a tough decision for me (assuming I'm even accepted at Sophie.) A few weeks ago I would have said Sophie Davis no doubt, but I've talked to some current and former students and both schools over the past few weeks and Brooklyn has started to grow on me.

And jackie101 I received a letter last Thursday I believe.

Oh wow, i guess my chances are pretty much done then... =/ You have to reserve your seat by the 31st??
and it will be a pretty tough decision. I feel that both programs have their pro's and cons....I guess it really all depends on what kind of worker you are...
Brooklyn is a little more laid back in the sense that you dont have to cram 8 years of knowledge into 7 and you can even get the whole college experience...They emphasize the fact that you should major in something non-science to be able to get a more holistic education. Sophie on the other hand relieves you of the burden of Mcats and you get a chance to complete your studies a year earlier. The only con i can think of for Sophie is that its a really intense and rigorous program...

Well I guess another con of Sophie is if you don't want to go into primary care its $75,000. But Jackie101 I wouldn't say your chances are done. According to some students there after the 31st depending on how many spots are still available they'll send a 2nd and if necessary 3rd round of admissions notices.

I agree with jackie 101. If you are willing to work really hard for 7 yrs, Sophie is the best choice. Either way, you will feel stressed. You are becoming a DOCTOR! So MetsFan, make your choice and just feel good about it.

PS:How did you get your acceptance letter? Who interviewed you for the BAMD?

GOOD LUCK!!!

thanks metsfan, i really hope thats true. sophie and BAMD are both at the top of my list of colleges, I only hope that i might face the same dilemma you will probably have!

Got the letter by snail mail, don't know the name of the guy who interviewed me though. He was a chem teacher at Brooklyn. It's going to be a tough choice, but I'll take it its a good potential problem to have.
