Sophomore Housing

OK, it's time to start thinking about housing for next year. :) Substance-free housing is in Crowell (I think), and PRISM is in Few, both of which I'm considering. Few has the better location, but I like the substance-free housing, so I'm not sure which I like better. Anyone else considering substance-free?

warblersrule~

My son is in sub-free (Brown) this year. Are you currently in Brown??

~berurah

Actually, no. I was in FOCUS, so I'm in Alspaugh (directly across the quad from Brown).

warblersrule~

Oh, O.K....I was just wondering why you might be considering sub free for next year. S likes Brown but feels there is a bit of a '"stigma" attached, as in, having the reputation of being "no fun." The thing is, he's kind of a health nut...works out everyday, eats well, etc., but has no philosophical or religious objection to a partying lifefstyle. His is strictly personal choice based on health.

I was under the impression that he would not go for sub-free again next year, but now, after tenting with all the partiers right outside all night, I think he may reconsider lololol. ~berurah

I'm thinking of trying for either substance-free or the community service dorm if I don't become an RA.

berurah- From what I've heard, most of the sophomores that aren't part of a frat, selective living, substance-free, etc., end up in Edens which is waaaaay away from everything. I'm trying to avoid that lol.

I'm just really bitter we can't even try to get a single. They could seriously stick me in the furthest, most remote dorm room of Edens and I wouldn't even care!

But anyway, I want to live in Edens anyway I think, just because I want to be off the west quad and away from a lot of the west social life. Not that I'm not social, but I don't want to be in the middle of it. Too bad I have to find a roommate now. I wish I filled out that RA app:(

Heh, if I don't make the cut for RAs I won't even have time to find a roommate.

I also thought about filling out the RA application, but I decided against it because I didn't want to deal with extra work or RA meetings. Now I wish I had applied since I want a single.

I am trying for substance-free since the idea of having a roommate is hard enough anyway without having to deal with someone coming in drunk at 2 AM and sleeping until noon. Maybe there are some singles available in substance-free since it's a separate application/due date, but I'm not counting on it.

That's not true this year, I actually don't think most sophomores are in Edens. This year though...a lot more of you guys will end up there because of the new system haha it's really not that bad. I lived in Edens for a while. There's like an elevator to get down there from the beanery... and they're hopefully going to replace Rick's with something good soon. And as loveduke said, it does tend to be a bit quieter than main west. But don't be too bitter about not getting to even try to get a single, you wouldn't have gotten one anyway, really, you wouldn't have. At least this way you won't have to come up with a back-up plan and all that stuff. I agree that having a roommate often sucks... I'm definitely going for a single next year.

blah. i just want to live on central. i know that's sketchy...but i want to.

hmm-I guess I went over to the dark side and joined a frat...

I swear to god I saw someone doing push ups on the main east quad (right outside Brown) a couple of times at like 12am last semester, is that by any chance your son, berurah :D

hello~

lolololololol Not a chance! He works out in the gym during the day, but I asked him, and he said that he knows a guy who does go out at night and takes part in such curious activities.... :) ~berurah

Why can't sophomores get singles on West? Im currently a sophomore and know no fewer than 4 fellow sophomores who have singles.

I think it has to do with the class of 2009 being overenrolled.

I don't see why it would have anything to do with the class of 2009. I think I saw somewhere that RLHS said all singles will be taken by rising juniors and seniors. I'm not sure how they predict that... They probably just don't want the hassle of all these sophomores wanting singles and then having to scramble to find a roommate later. Maybe it has to do with the demise of linking and squatting.

Or you could be like me and end up filling out the RA app for nothing. :\ Ugh, I don't know where to even begin looking for a roommate.

When do we fill out the housing apps? anyone?

March 1st.
