What do you guys think I should participate in? I've got a 4.0 and atm I'm in JV Soccer, JCL, DECA, and French Club. I really want to go to an ivy league school and my brother's heading off to Harvard this year but he got rejected by ALL of the other ivies, so maybe that was just luck. Is there anything that will really set me apart? I'm considering teaching immigrants english, and I know this makes me sound inconsiderate, but would that improve my chances at all?

Also, would you guys suggest that I start a website? I know HTML (learned it on my own time) and I could write about science/fitness or something like that. Would that look good on college apps?

Okay, ask yourself “Why Harvard?” Yeah there may be a couple of people who got in because of good ecs they did to impress Harvard, but it is best to have a legitimately good reason. For example, my ecs are pretty unique, but I don’t do them to be unique. I just like unusual things. Do whatever you like and if that consists of HTML stuff, go for it! Big name competitions are popular, but you don’t have to do those things to get into Harvard.

Create a website if you think that it can benefit others or that it can turn into something big. Ivy League Schools love recognition. They want the students who have done big, public, and well-known things. I know a person who goes to UPenn and he was incredibly involved in health among the youth, so much that he went to visit Mrs. Obama. Two other friends of mine went off to MIT (although not Ivy, but in the same category), and received scholarships in robotics and were big time athletes.
