Sophomore Needs Help

Hello :)
I am a homeschooled sophomore, and I am just beginning to make short films and write screenplays. I do have a question:

1) Do I have to send in applications to colleges in the latter part of my junior year year? And if so, is from now to then enough time to build an impressive portfolio?

No, you will send in applications in the beginning of senior year. Most colleges have their application dates from November to December or even early January to February of that year. And it’s great you started this early but you will have a little bit more time senior year. But try to get the bulk of your portfolio done in junior year. Then anything you get senior year can just be added to your portfolio.

While it is true that you will apply in your senior year, many schools have rolling admissions or early acceptance and you would need to have all of your applications for those schools, including all of your portfolio to them possibly by early November. There are also schools that will start reviewing applications as early as September. However, it is a great idea to really work hard on your portfolio during your junior year and then, as your work changes and grows in your senior year, you can switch work in and out. My dd had what she thought was a great portfolio as she entered senior year, but in the first three months of school, she did some new work and much of the portfolio was changed, as her work changed. Good luck to you!
