<p>Every sophomore in our district will take PSAT this Oct. </p>
<p>Is that normal for sophomore take that test at BS? </p>
<p>I know it doesn't count for sophomore year, so it will like a practice.</p>
<p>I know it's given in 10th grade at Blair, and it's very low key. You should check with your school to find out if they give it. </p>
<p>Boarding schools with a high out-of-state student population form their own district. Mid-Atlantic and New England boarding schools form one region, and have cut-off scores of the highest state in that region. For this year the cut-off is 221, which is also the cut-off of MA.</p>
<p>I did checked with college guidance. They do not encourage sophomore to take the test. I think it's a good chance (practice) before real test next year. </p>

<p>At DS's boarding school, even freshmen take the PSAT for practice (and obviously, soph's and jrs, too).<br>
At my younger son's elementary school (PK-8) they encourage 7th graders to take the SSAT for the same reason.</p>
<p>Of the three Boston area prep schools that I know about: 1 requires PSAT in 10th, one strongly recommends it and one permits but does not make any recommendations. It seems fairly common for 10th graders to take it as a way to find out how they will do on both PSAT as 11th graders, and SAT.</p>
<p>It's listed on my son's schedule for 10th graders at BS. I assume it's required and just part of the schedule.
Our local Jr. Prep requires all 7th - 9th graders to take the SSAT (for practice obviously if you are not applying out) and it is optional for 6th graders. It is great practice without any of the pressure.</p>

<p>i think that most boarding schools are certified test centers and they take the tests at their schools.
i have a friend at choate who said that the standardized tests are taken at school.</p>

<p>Sadly, a lot of boarding schools think that their education is so superior that they give no guidance or support to test prep. Their culture may even discourage prep work as a sign of (gasp, oh no) remedial. </p>
<p>Kids are on thier own, emotionally and logistically. May D put a brown paper cover the her SAT II Math II prep book, and did what needed to be done. That's hard for a social teen.</p>
