Im currently a freshman and my freshman year was not so great (not many activities, mediocre grades, etc). What is your advice for sophomore year? (or the coming summer?) How can I stand out as unique? I definitely want to head towards the science field, so if there is any good programs or volunteering opportunities you would recommend that would be nice.
Study , Study , Study my friend . Do not procrastinate either . Procrastinating and not doing your work is a killer. Focus on your schoolwork and balance out your Extracurricular activities. Take a few AP classes if you are up for the challenge. It only gets harder from here , good luck .

Are you doing anything this summer? If not, use it to get ahead in studying a bit so you don’t have to spend as much time studying during the school year. If you want to go into the sciences, you can also use this summer to contact university professors to try and get a research position. Or perhaps you could study to do well in the USABO/USNCO/USAPhO.
Basically, if you want to stand out as unique, you need to find something that you love (and preferably have some talent in) and pour a ton of energy into it.
