Sophomore year teacher recommendation

Hey CC,

I just have a question about recommendations. I had a teacher last year (my sophomore year) that taught me 3 classes (Calc AB, Physics, Calc BC) which I did extremely well in. She's also my supervising teacher for an independent project which will count as coursework in both my junior and senior year.

This will be 13 credits she actually taught me for and 10-15 independent study credits (junior/senior year combined). To give you a point of comparison, a typical 1 semester class that meets everyday (i.e. a full english course, a full math course) is 5 credits.

Will it be ok if I ask her for a rec for my CA? I thought she was going to be teaching me again officially in AP Physics my senior year but she's recently taken on an administrative role (VP) and she's been hinting that she might stay on. For clarification, at my school, administrators can still supervise studies and the like but don't usually teach full classes.

Thoughts?

I'm taking AP Bio this year and while I like and respect my teacher, she doesn't know me as well. The other teacher has also written me a rec for a program that I got accepted into so I'm confident in her writing prowess.

Thanks! :)

bumping ? 10char

You can use a sophomore teacher for a recommendation, if that’s what you’re asking…

Would it be frowned upon, though? I know HYPSM-esque schools tend to prefer junior year teachers but she’s taught me my sophomore year and still supervises/works with me on accredited independent studies.

any ideas?

Unless a school has a requirement that your LORs must come from jr & sr year teachers, soph is fine if it was for a higher level course and if it is an excellent LOR.

Both of my Ds submitted LORs from soph year AP Bio teachers and they were admitted to highly selective colleges.
