Hey everyone! Cornell is an option for me and wondering if anyone knows about sorority life on that campus. Some actual student feedback would be great. Wondering how hard it is to get a bid, etc. Is living in the house a good experience?
The top sororities at Cornell are DG, APHI, KAPPA and THETA; hard to get bids to these (called the Core Four). The rest of the houses are open to more girls. Living at the house is a great experience and costs about as much as a dorm but you have to get picked from a list because most houses can’t hold all members who want to live in. It was very nice to always have someone to hang with. Most houses have doubles and singles; the singles were for officers.
A parent here. Both of my kids were in one of those sororities mentioned above. They both enjoyed the experience very much. There were always mixers to go to and they got to meet a lot of people they otherwise wouldn’t have. I know they partied a lot, but I think it would have been the same whether they were in a sorority or not. Both of them have since graduated and they continue to stay in contact with their sisters.
It is best to into rush with an open mind. It is more important to join a sorority with people you like rather about ranking of a sorority. My younger daughter’s best friend joined one of top sororities and really didn’t like it. She ended up not spending much time there. My kids joined a sorority where most of their good friends ended up. After living at the sorority for one year, they ended up getting an apartment off campus together.
