Sorority Room & Board charges

Anyone familiar whether this is for the year or the semester? It's not clear at all from the 'financial information' mailed to us. Obviously I will call tomorrow to clarify, but hopefully someone here has experience.....

(I am not referring to the activity account fees, initiation fees, member dues, chapter dues)

In my experience, room and board fees for those in Greek life go through the Bursar’s office and will show up on your Bursar bill. As such they will be billed by semester. I have found both the room and board fees to be comparable to campus housing and campus meal plans, but that may vary by frat/sorority.

I am sure you just received the first bill, which should include new member fee, room (use of the parlor), board (eating few times at the sorority), activity fees, and they are for New Member Semester, which is for now. In my daughter’s case, it is just over 1000. There is also semester living in house costs, which would be for next fall and spring. If it is similar to what we received, it is for one semester and it should be very close to Cornell’s room and board (5000/semester). I do know that there is one house which get enough pledges and their house is also very expensive, so the girls may need to pay much higher room and board.

How does it work for the girls that don’t live in the house as sophomores or juniors? Do they have to pay more?

They would pay for room and board and social dues. For my kid’s sorority, room is just for using the parlor (few hundred), board is for eating few meals a week there). It is less than 1000 per semester. If your kid is studying abroad then it is very little. This is what I know from my kid’s sorority. I am not sure how other houses do it. I just received a very detailed break down of the costs.
