Can someone tell me how is sorority rush at WFU? Given that WFU isn't your typical southern school, I'm guessing it isn't as cut throat as some of the other schools in NC, GA, AL, FL, VA, etc. Am I right?

Also, how cliquey is the campus? Since it is soooo Greek, is there a community feeling with spirit and school pride? Or is it more socially exclusive?

@Rice1961:

Sorority recruitment here is much more formal than most Northern schools, but muccccch less formal/intense than at schools like Ole Miss & Bama. I would not call it “cut throat”.

I don’t really feel like the campus is cliquey. In my classes, I feel comfortable talking to pretty much everyone, regardless what Greek organization they are affiliated with (or if they are unaffiliated). Some people are cliquey, some are not, and I think it will be like that wherever you go.

There is school pride here - not in the way that you would see school pride at a school like Penn State, etc, but it’s more of a quiet pride, in my opinion.

How important are recs and contacting the Winston-Salem Alumni Orgs for various sororities for recruitment? How many girls go through versus pledge?

@Rice1961: Recs aren’t super important. Obviously legacy status and recs help, but I would say the majority of girls do not have them. I did not have them, it was not an issue. Definitely not like how the typical Southern schools require them

I am honestly not sure how many go through versus pledge but I would say the majority of girls at least go through recruitment. Rough estimate - maybe just under 500 go through recruitment and there are 8 sororities with pledge classes of over 50 each (?). Most girls will get bids from somewhere. Some girls drop out of recruitment and go through it again in the fall.

I would honestly say, also, that most girls are happy with how recruitment turned out for them. Obviously, with any type of rush/recruitment type thing, there will be unhappy campers, but everything works out as it should in the end. I hope that this helps!

ALSO - note - Wake is actively bringing new sororities onto campus (we just got Kappa Alpha Theta) so more girls are able to join sororities. Theta came onto campus this past semester and over 100 girls joined.
