sororties/housing

I noticed while looking at the greek websites that a lot of the sororites and faternities are seperated by race. why is that? and can you pledge for any sorority if you want to regardless of what color you are?

Also I applied for SPrings, Beaty and murphee dorms for the fall with preferences in that order but I am beginning to have second thoughts because though I want a suite style dorm, I also want a social dorm thats closer to most classes. what should i do?

Mostly, if not entirely, historical.

IFC: white male
MGC: Indian and Latinos
Panhellenic: white female
National Pan-Hellenic Council: black

Absolutely.

MGC + NPHC you might have a harder time if your white, although they have white members. Alphas, Iota’s, and the Sigma’s (I think) have had white members in the past. There pledge process is also different than IFC and PanH, generally their pledges are in their group of friends.

Pan + IFC also have black members, but there might be 1-3 in each pledge class. Some are rumored to be less willing to give pledge offers to minority students, like Tri Delts (rumor, so dont know if its true).

MGC is a mixture. Some are known to be mostly Indian (Sig Beta Rho + Delta Phi Omega), some mostly Latino ( Lambda Theta Phi + Sigma Lambda Beta) and other a totally mixture (Theta Nu Xi).

With suite styles, its dependent on the residents and RA, how social the floor/section will be, so its hard to tell. Bases on closest to most classes, Murphree, Beaty, Spring. Beaty generally has more freshmen that the others.

wow that really helps a lot thanks
