Sorry about yet another...

sorry about adding yet another "chances" thread to the flood of spam but i'm just nervous about college. would my other stats make my relatively low gpa look better?

Chances for:[ul]
[] Harvard early
[] Stanford early/regular
[] Brown regular
[] JHU regular
[/ul]

any targets/safeties that i should be considering?

thanks again for your time and consideration

Harvard early - reach for everyone
Stanford early/regular - reach for everyone
Brown regular - match
JHU regular - match

Nice stats. But you should have some extra-curr. I think you have a decent chance at those places.

what kind of extra ECs?

maybe some research and/or volunteering at hospitals if you want to get into medicine or BME at JHU, and the accelerated med program at Brown.

There is no accelerated med program at Brown; it is 8-years long. And for BME, you don't research/volunteering; I have a friend who got in with mainly Viola and Math as her ECs. Granted, she also got into Harvard, but research/volunteering isn't necessary.

what other stats did your friend have?

You have an excellent shot at all your schools, with Hopkins and Brown being matches PROVIDED you show enough interest in your essays. You wouldn't believe how many of my "match" schools I got waitlisted at because I didn't show interest, but got into my reach schools BECAUSE I showed interest! Also, you really want to work something you're passionate about in your essays. If you really push one or two things that you are passionate about and show consistency in your activies through all four years, yous hould be golden. Excellent stats! Also, race shouldn't be a problem if you put "No answer" on your application or something. That's what I did, not sure if it helped me or not but I took the safe route.

My friend had a 1600 old SAT, 2340 SAT IIs (3 of them), valedictorian.

Oh yes, I agree, research and volunteering are not necessarily if you have an ec that you as passionate about.

for harvard and stanford, you need to stand out in some way or another. i had perfect scores on my sats, good SAT 2s, straight As, lots of APs, various leadership positions, research, etc. but i didnt get into harvard (didnt apply to stanford) b/c there was nothing unique about me. still, you have a better chance than most people at harvard and stanford. i'd say ur a good match for hopkins. i dont know about brown, because they tend to choose "unique" people, in a different way than harvard/stanford

you should consider duke, cornell, northwestern as some match schools.

for safeties, umich, uva, and some other publics with decent out of state acceptance rates
