Sorry, but grades/ec activities are WAY more important

Lol, care to share the score on your AP Lang exam my friend? If you performed decently on that, the CR should be relatively familiar.

If you manage to get a 100 in an AP English class, your teacher is not doing a good enough job. Really, are you a perfect reader and writer? Cause that’s what a 100 implies! Your teachers may be easy graders and your classes easy if you performed so poorly on the SAT.

Man, I kind of suck at school, but do decently on SAT’s. I worked my ass off for them because I figured anything that could raise my chances is worth it. Hohum.

this guy has to be a ■■■■■. I refuse to believe that someone could be this self-diluted.

The SAT is a worthless test, I completely agree. Take the ACT, you would probably do better on it.

Intelligience is luck idiot, get over it. You win the lottery who the hell cares, get over yourself . Hard work and intellect are equal standings. If you think you’re somehow superior because Jesus came down to you and what not, then get some friends because you probably don’t have any. Let people work hard – atleast these people actually do something instead of sitting around.

It does help gauge grade inflation. I guess it works.

Everyone I know who got 1500 or less is … dumb.

And just for the record, that’s perfectly fine. Some people are dumb. That’s just the way it is.

Anyways, moving on. Almost everyone I know who did very well is very smart. There are a couple of people who did very well that I don’t consider to be “very” intelligent, but I know for a fact (they told me) that they studied a lot.

So in my experience the SAT generally estimates intelligence pretty well.

On the other hand, colleges don’t use SAT scores for no reason. They’ve been shown to strongly indicate how well a student will perform in college. If you don’t perform well on the SATs, you probably won’t perform well in college. And that’s why the SATs are used.

^^less than 1500…dumb ?SO if you score 750 on Math and 700 on CR…this makes you dumb?
You sir/lady … I can
t even describe you.Even the classical type of nerd won
t say something like.
P.S
I guess now you probably mean 1500 (CR+WR+M),So I have to agree :)

Stop whining just because you didn’t get the grades you wanted

anyway,

SAT is quite a good measure of aptitude, I think. I mean I’ve never once been surprised by anyone’s SAT score. If someone is smart, he would do reasonably well. Even if he messes up big time, he doesn’t get a 1500. Likewise, I’ve never seen anyone who’s not-so-bright get above 1800 on the SAT. How else would colleges know to compare one highschool from another?

I wonder what you would have said if you had something like 2200 on the SAT. Just saying… Get over it.

Work smart not hard, so yes being a hard worker doesn’t necessary mean you’re intelligent. Get over yourself.

One thing I’ve observed after being on these boards for over a year: those who complain about the SAT are generally those who do badly on it.

Coincidence…? ;)

I’m sure the SAT will die off soon as some sort of education scandal once the ACT outpasses the SAT. Hopefully, then, all the problems on the SAT will be revealed and society will once again function correctly.

A good grade in high school english doesn’t translate to a good critical reading score on the SAT. You need to read with no interpretation in the SAT whereas in your AP english class, you learn to read by taking into account many assumptions such as author’s purpose, tone, meaning, theme of story, etc. On the SAT, if you do any of that… you’re toast.

I think that the SAT is a useless extra burden for seniors and an absolute waste of time, and i got a 2280. so really, u dont have to do bad on it to think it is ridiculous and idiotic. I have enough on my plate with senior courses, ec’s, and college applications without having to study for a super long test for which test taking strategy is usually a large part of results.

Lmao, intelligence is luck? Stupidest statement I’ve seen on this board yet.

ok come on.

i couldn’t have said it better impetuous. what would you be saying if you got a 2400 on the SATs? I sense a little jealousy here…
just get over yourself and i’m sorry about your TERRRIBLE scores sarcasm

and next time, do yourself a favor and don’t freaking b!tch about the SATs…in the SAT prep section. we here actually care about the SATs. adieu for now.

I agree with the people who said the SAT is useful as the constant between the many students that have different grading systems and other things that vary from school to school.

Colleges use the SAT as a measure of how well students will do in college. Given: they want students who will thrive in their school, in an intellectual environment.

The SAT both measures intelligence and work ethic. If someone gave me people I knew and SAT scores, I could probably match them up pretty accurately. You see, if you’re naturally smart, you might be able to get a 220, but I’ve rarely seen any higher than that, from just intelligence. It takes work to get a good SAT score. Period.

I think the SAT is great just because of the amount of resources available. The standard Blue Book has 10 tests, 13 now if you add the 1st and 2nd editions together. There are 3 available online on this forum. If, for some reason, you want to take more than 16, there are 12 from Kaplan, 12 from McGraw Hill, and undoubtedly more from Barrons and Princeton Review.

I’ve had friends who have had 1500 scores on their first practice test shoot up to 2300s and the occasional 2400 on practice tests after 20 or so tests. Personally, I’ve witnessed my own score rise after taking practice tests. With no studying, I had a 2050 sophomore year. With about 6-7 practice tests, one every weekend, my score rose to 2220 Junior Year. After another 3-4, I got a 2280 Senior Year (a bit unlucky, I think), and after burning through another 6-7 in the 2-3 weeks before my November test, I received a 2380.

Is it possible to be unlucky on the SAT? Yes. Many times, I felt my score did not reflect the work I put into it. But it eventually paid off.

For those who complain about having the SAT Senior year, just take it in your junior year. The SAT is pretty well known, and you should have figured out its importance by Sophomore year. I took it throughout my Soph-Junior-Senior year, and although I know people are about to flame me for taking it so many times, I knew this ahead of time, and I have no one to blame for myself for having to stress about it in my Senior Year.

So to the OP, I must declare that you are either an idiot, or wrote your answers down incorrectly…on most of the questions. If you would take a look at the Standard Deviation of the SAT, I believe the mean score would be about a total 1500-1550ish. To say that you’re in advanced math and got a sub-average score probably says something about your school’s grading system, or your esteemed view of yourself.

Edit: I believe 2250 is closer to the 25th percentile for HYP. Sorry to burst your bubble, Handala92.

For unhooked candidates, the average is probably above 2300.

OP, guess you’re not as smart as you think you are.

Handala92, unless I’m presented with data to the contrary, I feel comfortable in assuming the average SAT for unhooked acceptees at Harvard and Yale is very near to if not greater than 2300.
