Drunkofdreams;
You are COMPLETELY misunderstanding what I am trying to say. And why are you attacking me on every post I make?

Dignified1;
You hit the nail on the head.

You hit the nail on the head.

I don’t see why you shouldn’t mention NHS on your application unless your ECs are so numerous and spetacular that the mentioning of honor society will detract significantly from your better activities.

Not everyone even has “a slew of clubs”, and no one is contending that NHS is particular impressive :).

miss_murd3r - I’m not “attacking” you; I’m providing reasoning for my claims and defending my statements while pointing out the flaws in your arguments, not you. Don’t take online posters too personally

Lots of people have provided their opinions. marz, this is your decision to make.

/thread

Drunkofdreams; Are you a high school Senior?
Flaws in my arguments? That’s merely your opinion, which you are entitled to. Don’t worry - I’m not taking anything you say personally.

+1 to what xrCalico23 said.

miss_murd3r - yes I am. Feel free to PM me if you’d like to talk specifically to me. This is not our own thread for private conversations.

I appreciate the discussion you guys have going on here. I think I’ll mention NHS in the awards section, but other than that I’ll probably stick to drunkofdreams approach and focus on the few extracurriculars in which I’ve accomplished something.
Thanks!

See, you might think that the EC you are involved in is too common, but an AdCom might not.

I would like to see the final list that you end up putting, along with the ones you chose to not mention.

marz93 in no way am I trying to steal your thread, but since it seems like most discussion is over, I was hoping that some of the posters here would be able to help me out on my thread–I’m having similar problems.

thanks so much–I would really appreciate it if you could help me out

heres the link:

Alright I’ll probably sort out my extracurriculars tonight and I’ll post the list here.

Ok so here’s what I’ve decided to post on the common app (in order of significance):

School Newspaper
Model UN
Speech (I’ll include Toastmasters and Debate Club here)
Tutoring
Basketball
Summer school volunteering

Work Experience (is there a way to seperate this in the common app?):

Agricultural work over summer
Paid tutor
Crossguard job

You should separate out Toastmasters and Debate Club into two different things. And I’d add NHS to academic honors or on the EC section. What positions do you hold in each activity? What duration of high school have you been involved in each?

And work experience can be separated. They have a different section for that.

Can work experience really be separated? I mean it’s under activities along with the EC’s.

And since you asked, I’m chief editor of the school newspaper, chair in Model UN treasurer of NHS, I was VP of Toastmasters (just for 10th grade), and I’ll likely grab a leadership position in our tutoring club.

The Toastmasters program however ended after 10th grade due to a lack of interest (we only had about 5 members sign up), and so I wanted to group debate club with it to show a continued interest in public speaking.

Really appreciate the help.
