difference between need blind and need-conscious? ;(

Need blind means the admissions department is unaware of whether an applicant has financial need when they make admissions decisions. It does not mean the student will or will not get financial aid - just that it is not a factor in making admissions decisions.

Need aware means that the admissions department is aware of whether the applicant has financial need and this may be a factor in making admissions decisions.

Also, there is the issue of schools' meeting full need. There are few need-blind schools that meet full need; sufficient endowment is required that few schools have. Some need-blind schools admit students without meeting their full need, sometimes called "come-anyway" (if the student can somehow supply the missing funds, e.g., from grandparents whose assets and/or income are not considered when determining need). Need-conscious schools admit only full payers after the financial aid budget has been depleted for that year.
