Extracurriculars (in order of commitment)
Internship at NIH Neuroblastoma, Pediatric Oncology over the summer as a volunteer and after school every day from 2-6 as supplement classes. Have been able to make strides in independent research and am doing work to supplement my mentor's own research. I think the fact that I volunteered for the position and work for twenty hours a week shows my commitment to science.

Organizer of Outreach Program- Self-formulated program based on Link Crew, it focuses on peer mentorship within freshmen that will continue until they graduate and will help freshmen accomplish their own passions with senior speakers, faculty speakers, and community leaders.

Senior Class Secretary- Major part of organizing activities like Homecoming, Senior Picnic, Hall decorating, Graduation, and Prom. As well as self motivated activities and attending all of the various functions that the school holds.

Civil Air Patrol: Have been in the program since Freshman year and have invested hundreds of hours of time in it. I have become an officer and leader in the program, had to plan activities like meetings, trips for the group, etc. I've attended many camps over the summer in relation with this program and have learned how to fly-soloed a plane, have seen a space shuttle take off, have been a drill sergeant at an encampment, and become a ground team member-takes part in search and rescue missions.

National Honor Society Treasurer- Planned incoming Freshmen picnic and responsible for induction and various other tasks.

Crew: Rowing since Sophmore year on the team

Debate Team: On it since Sophmore year, I was a county finalist last year and more of a passive observer the year before.

Various honor societies: National Honor Society obviously, Mu Alpha Theta, Howard Hughes Student Academy of Science, Science National Honor Society, French Honor Society. I put this under academic distinctions not EC's though

Recommendations

Counselor: Said that he would focus on my ability to balance my school work and attain great grades and work long hours at an internship as well as doing things for the school like being a class officer, starting a new program, etc with my casual and not hyper intense spirit: google burrito mile

Teacher: English-Will focus on class anecdotes as well as talking about the resume

Science: Will talk about my dedication to science and the work I have done in those areas to further my passion for it i.e. taking all of the AP science classes, working at a science internship, etc

Chance me for Early Action at Stanford please. Engineering or science related major with interest in Pre-Med
Schools applying to are

Early Action Stanford
Washington University in St Louis
Princeton
Cornell
University of Michigan
University of Maryland College Park
Emory
Duke
Vanderbilt
Dartmouth
Combined Medical Northwestern
Combined Medical George Washington
John Hopkins University

lol we basically have the exact same application (college list, debate, science, etc)...down to what subjects our recommenders teach and what they will talk about...

I wish you luck

definitely in at all.

and for all those who will post after me saying "but it's a crap shoot," just know that in this case, it's really not.

but no, it really is.

ANd SUPaMAN DAt hOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

wow what a difference a catchy thread title makes

It would be an absolute joke to not let you in to any of the schools you're applying to... sure its a crap shoot as everyone loves to say, but if there is any order to college admissions then you are admitted everywhere. Take your pick. Personally, I would go to Princeton, Dartmouth, or Duke. Good Luck.

haha wow thanks, yea my top choices are Stanford, Princeton, Duke, and Dartmouth

bumpity bump. I spoke to the admissions officer for our area today, she told my counselor i was the type of applicant they were looking for when he was talking to her about me

go to wash u.....i have visited/went to many of the top ivy league schools...and wash u in st. louis is by far the best. #2 in the nation for medicine/pre-med behind harvard, but soon to be #1 :-D i graduated from there so if you need an interview or something let me know...plus i can make 1 recommendation per year to admissions...they usually let these people in :-)

anyway, it's the best because the students are the best. not the brainiac know-it-alls that go to harvard, they actually have a personality. plus the events, school spirit, etc. is top notch. when tours walk by you will see people come up to the tours and tell you how great the school is...completely unprovoked! amazing campus...best years of my life!

more chances please

Considering I think you have a great shot everywhere, though obviously places like Stanford will turn down kids like you just to make everyone else fell miserable, I will just put in my 2 cents about each school(not that you are me, but just what I think, and maybe we have a couple of the same wavelengths)

Early Action Stanford - Awesome, I'd put it at/near the top.
Princeton - If I wanted to go to an Ivy, this would be it.
Vanderbilt - just seems like a cooler version of some of these top schools.
Combined Medical Northwestern - Great program at a really cool school.
John Hopkins University - I'd go somewhere that isn't so much pre-med, but I'd have it reasonably high on the list.

Those 5 would be the ones I'd be looking at if I were you, but that is just me.

Early Action Stanford: 50% In
Washington University in St Louis: 70% In
Princeton: 35% In
Cornell: 65% In
University of Michigan: In
University of Maryland College Park: In with aid
Emory: 95% In
Duke: 60% In
Vanderbilt: 85% In
Dartmouth: 55% In
Combined Medical Northwestern: 45% In
Combined Medical George Washington: 60% In
John Hopkins University: 65% In

Actually I strongly believe (and have experienced) thatyou want to avoid the cutthroat pre-med schools (washU, JHU). They offer no boost but have many majors competing for limited resources and creating harsh curves.

My choices (by far) on your list would be Stanford, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Duke as well!

I didn't include Duke or Dartmouth because of a few superficial reasons. I hate the Dukies as I grew up an MSU fan, and there have been quite a few tough battles between Duke and MSU Bball. And Dartmouth I visited the same day as Middlebury, and just found Midd to be better for everything I was looking at. So I didn't feel like pressing that one(and that hair art thing at the library is just plain creepy).

But you will get into a lot of excellent schools, I'll most likely be jealous come April.

Thanks, I'm surprised that Stanford admissions is less rigorous than Princeton's. I've been working very hard on my Princeton app and I think my quirkiness, passionate, and laid-back attitude come through in both my counselor and teacher recommendations and my own essays. I don't know if fit is a signifcant portion of acceptance though . . .

more please?
