There are four classes in South Asian Studies that satisfy the Haas literature requirement:
121 - Classical Indian Literature in Translation
C122 - The Novel in India
124 - Modern Indian Literature
C142 (also C166) - India's Great Epics: The Mahabharata and the Ramayana

What kind of books do we read in each? Which one would you say is most interesting? Which ones are easier or have a smaller workload involved? I think I would be more interested in the classics (the Mahabharata and the Ramayana) than modern lit, but I don't want a really crazy workload. Do we read the Mahabharata and Ramayana in 121?

i am taking s asian r5a this sem...we have read the ramayana and it was actually an interseting/easy read....light reading and writing...from what i hear c166 is just a more in-depth look at ramayana but im not 100% on that (i would take that one if i were you)

For C166, it says I need either the prerequisites or approval from the professor. How would I be able to get into the class without taking the prereqs, only on the prof's approval? Should I go talk to him/her personally? And would this be wise? Does the class need the prereqs?

you don't technically "need" the prereqs to get in since you will still reread the texts in class...i would personally contact the prof (you might want to ask him/her also if you really need those prerqs or not
