South Carolina Honors or University fellows at Alabama?

I have been accepted into the honors college at South Carolina and then accepted into the university fellows program at Alabama in addition to being in their honors college. Which is a better and more prestigious opportunity?

What do you plan to major in?

I plan to major in history and criminology on a prelaw track!

@LuckyCharms913 I plan to major in history and criminology on a prelaw track

I don’t know about the strength of those majors at either school. Columbia being the state capital (and the Capitol is right next to campus) might open up some options for internships that could be useful for a pre-law student.

I had a D graduate from U of SC Honors College in 2019 and she had a great experience. Plenty of recent UA grads will say the same.

Did one campus appeal to you more than the other? Is one or the other much easier/cheaper to get to? Any significant difference in cost?

University Fellows at the University of Alabama is a distinguishing honor given to a small percentage of UA Honors College students.

Nevertheless, pick the school that you like better as both have offered you honors college priveleges.

Curious if you applied to Ole Miss ?

Also, why criminology for law school ?

FWIW “Criminal Justice” is not a good major to prepare one for law school; however, “criminology” might help if seeking a career in the FBI or similiar government law enforcement agency at which law degrees are common.

I chose criminology just because it is interesting to me. I did not apply to Ole Miss. Alabama is 10,000 cheaper than USC but after rushing, which I will do, the costs will be about the same.

When I first read your post, I misread it and mistakenly thought of “criminal justice” which is a much less demanding major.

Ole Miss used to have, and may still have, a pipeline to the FBI. (Might have been due to powerful Congressmen from Mississippi.)

So you are deciding between 3 schools? (SC, Bama and Tulane?)

Bama isn’t high on my list at all to be honest but I did want to ask if anyone knew anything about the program I mentioned @jym626

With respect to prestige–as you asked in your original post–University Fellows at Alabama tops the list as it is a very small group selected from among the Honors College admits.

The better question is whether or not that prestige will help you to get where you want to go.

I plan to go to law school!!
