Southern girl needs advice..

I go to a private school and we def. have smart people. Some end up at Ivy league and some end up at Jr. colleges. It's a very wide range. I am ranked in top 20 out of 170 in my class and have been searching colleges. I have always said, I'm going to Harvard. I always knew it would be a far stretch for me to get into somewhere ivy league, so now I am more realistic.
I have about a 4.2 cumulative GPA, I pretty much always make A's and maybe one B. I am involved in service and lots of clubs, and I show leadership.
I have found some good schools in the south I am interested in such as Berry, Rhodes, and Springhill. I was dead set on Berry and the scholarship I wanted requires a 29 ACT. I had been practicing ACT and usually got around 28, but my time was over.
I got a 23. I have been extremely dissappointed. People have said to try the SAT if I have time issues(my scores were higher in eng. and math on act). Should I?
AND, does anyone know of any southern schools with scholarship options that I have a shot at? And, advice on what to do on ACT to chill out during the test? bad anxiety...

Hi…

Are you a junior or a senior?

If you are a senior, do you know if your schools will accept 2010 SAT or ACT scores for scholarship consideration?

You can try the SAT, and yes, some do better on that. However, the difference between an ACT 23 and the SAT equivalent of an ACT 29 is quite big. It’s equal to a 1300 M+CR SAT (M+CR is usually what is used for scholarship consideration).

What is your budget for schooling? How much will your parents pay for your college costs? That will likely determine where you’ll be going, if the scholarships/scores don’t work out.

What state are you in?

Wake Forest might be worth a look. It’s test-optional, so with your grades and rank, you’d have a fighting chance. It’s not the best for financial aid, however.

Berea would be worth consideration since you like the other somewhat conservative LACs. It’s tuition-free and in KY…worth a look.

Most of the southern states have pretty solid publics…have you considered the one(s) in your state?

I agree…

The smaller regional/directional publics may not be as strong, but the flagships and other larger publics are probably good choices.

I’m a junior.
Yes I am looking at some public schools too. Im in AL.
