Great to know! Does it make sense to book a return flight now by booking a flight after the last day of finals? It looks like this Fall, the last day of finals is December 19th. If I book a flight for D to come home on that night, departing at around 6:00 p.m., is that leaving too much to chance? Can anyone tell me how late the last final could run?

Thanks!

is that leaving too much to chance?

No that should be just fine! most finals are over before the last day- see below for when finals were scheduled last Dec.

[Schedule of Classes: Fall 2011: Final Examinations Schedule](http://www.usc.edu/academics/classes/term_20113/finals.html)

DS had an exam that last exam time and it didn’t end until 5pm I believe. You might want to schedule for 8pm or later.

Or I might book a one way ticket for her to travel out there.
Then later in the semester get her a round trip that departs LA in December and returns in January before school starts. Then the same for the end of spring term returning in August. Do many people do that instead?

On Southwest you can change a ticket at any time with no penalty fees. If the price of the new one is more you pay the difference, if it is less you get “credit” you can use for up to one year. If you just cancel a ticket you also get the credit usable for up to one year. So I would book now. You don’t have anything to loose unless you can’t use a credit within a year. The credit has to be used by the person whose name is on the original ticket. You can’t transfer it between family members.

I booked move in and parents weekend today- at great prices.
