Southwestern Houston Austin Professional Education (SHAPE)

@soxnation… Yeah that’s what I want to know. Is it a big deal to be invited to apply to this program ?

I would imagine that they couldn’t invite EVERYONE accepted to both schools, considering college of natural science is the largest school at UT. But, that’s just speculation.

That’s what I want to know… Is it a big deal if one is invited to this program or do they send emails to all students interested in premed ?

I’ve known about SHAPE for the past couple months and submitted my SHAPE app a month ago, I believe.
I got the email about SHAPE a few days ago, strangely, but I’m going to guess they probably did send it to students interested in Premed. Either that or they literally looked at a bunch of individuals and sent the email to those individuals, lol.

Hmm…so you got an email a few days ago even though you applied a month ago. Wonder how organized these guys are.

Last year, the emails were only sent to qualified applicants. It was pretty exclusive; I know some pre-meds that were accepted to other UT honors programs that were not given the invitation.

Then again, last year served as their pilot year so I am sure things have changed a lot since then. Either way the SHAPE program is something you should seriously consider. The caliber of the students in the program is pretty astounding and the opportunities it presents are truly unique. I know of many students who chose to attend UT over full rides/significant scholarships at “prestigious” OOS universities exclusively because of their acceptance to SHAPE.

As a pre-med on the traditional track, I cannot overstate the comforts that come with an ensured acceptance. Moreover, if you plan on attending medical school in Texas then SHAPE offers the absolute best route to get there.

Thanks frever. That’s helpful. It seems that they only accepted 50-60 students last year.

So basically if you are accepted, you do a lot of work in your freshman year in college to prepare for an interview and then if you pass the interview, they let you participate in the 7 year program?

@Creation123

The fact that they are now openly recruiting suggests that the email was sent out to a broader group than before.

@labeisoup
Essentially. Except the “a lot of work” doesn’t necessarily end after the interview. I’d recommend reading the faq.

@thehaakun What type of stats do you have?

@DrKTC2013 what stats exactly do you want to see from me?

@thehaakun SAT/GPA. You can look at my previous posts and view my stats as well.

Anybody get in 2013 program yet?

Results will be emailed out on Monday, I believe.

Results have been emailed. I was waitlisted. Anyone else get in?

I got in! But they say that the deadline to accept the invite is March 28th D:
That’s really early…

@127chk congratulations that is great.
What are your stat.

I know a bunch of freshmen in SHAPE, and they had their med interviews at the beginning of this year. It’s a great opportunity to make that close-knit group of friends on a large campus. If you want to do med, SHAPE is the best choice.

@grofkr
SAT 1st time: 700 math, 750 reading, 740 writing
2nd time: 710 math, 720 reading, 790 writing

GPA: I’m ranked about 7/600, with unweighted 4.0

I got into UT Shape. I heard it is a good program.
