I encourage those considering these schools to read the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Lots of great info. Seems especially high on Southwestern for undergraduate research, small classes, and one-on-one counseling.
OP: If you have done your own research & are comfortable with your findings/thought/conclusions than that should lead you to the school which is the better fit for you & your interests.
P.S. Fiske points out the tremendous wealth of Trinity University & how that wealth benefits students.
Correction: my daughter graduated in three years. I mentally include the study abroad summer as a semester and call it 3.5. She studied in Buenos Aires and completed her language requirement then, but she actually completed her degree in three, including the other study abroad semester.
Hi there!
My daughter is in the same exact situation. She loves Southwestern and I thought she’d choose it, but after attending Admitted Students Day the same week at both schools, she has decided on Trinity. They are both great schools, and sometimes it comes down to a feeling of where you see yourself for 4 years over anything else.
I actually graduated from Southwestern in 1991 with a psych degree. Went on to grad school and had a wonderful career as a school psychologist. Amazing intern opportunities at Southwestern, and my profs truly cared about us and helped us. I do get that same sense at Trinity. The help is there if you seek it out.
Not much help, but I understand the dilemma, and it’s not a bad one. I think they both have so much to offer! Good luck!
Just read everyone’s posts, I really appreciate the responses. Well my final decision has been made. I chose southwestern. I am more interested in the counseling side of psychology and feel that southwestern is a better match. But the number one thing that this came down to was my dual credits. Trinity will not accept credits that went to high school minimum requirements, this to me is a huge no as I am an early college high school student, so only my elective course would transfer. Southwestern is taking everything, plus southwestern is offering me about 20k more than trinity is. At the end of the day I will graduate at Southwestern in 2 years and be able to begin my masters studies. I feel like attending trinity would have been a waste of these 4 years. And to the poster about how I only looked into rate my professor, I have compared both departments and I’m much more interested in the research the professors at southwestern are doing. I also want my BA, not a BS. My original dream school was UT, but visiting southwestern changed that. I know that I will not get treated the same at UT and will have a much better experience at SU.
