Spanish 2 to AP Spanish

My school is really weird. The only Spanish courses we have are Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and AP Spanish. There is no honors Spanish. I'm in Spanish 2 at the moment and want to take AP Spanish next year, but I'm worried that I might not be prepared. Any advice?

Get practice tests (review book / old AP exams) to gauge how much you know as well as expand on your vocabulary and techniques by figuring out the wrong answers and why you were wrong.
Tune your radio to Spanish and try to comprehend what they’re saying. Practice with Spanish speaking friends (particularly helpful in online video game chats!) / people also taking AP Spanish that are better than you. Get Spanish books that you’ve read before in English and read.

I skipped Spanish 3, and pretty much did the above 2 weeks before the AP exam and I felt I learned the most Spanish ever during that time, enough to get a 2 instead of a 1 like most others taking the exam. Doing this will teach you better than standard classroom education, just start much earlier than me! :)

Spanish 2 is too basic to go straight to AP Spanish. I am not sure how they teach you Spanish at your school. In a class with half Hispanics, I knew more Spanish than most of the class in Spanish 3. My grammar was threw the roof. But when I took a look at an AP Spanish passage last summer, I cringed. It was just too much. You REALLY have to know Spanish if you want to go in AP Spanish. The AP foreign languages are the hardest exams of them all. Good luck!

Each school may have a different progress in foreign language. It would be tough in my D’s school to skip Spanish 3 and go to AP Spanish directly. My Ds took Spanish 1 in 8th grade and Spanish 2 AC in 9th grade. There are Spanish 3 AC and Spanish 4 AC before AP Spanish. So, not many students can achieve AP Spanish level there. I can’t imagine if my older D can skip 1 or 2 years of Spanish and take AP Spanish.

you can take it and not take the ap. the ap is a pain unless yu are über passionate or from Spain
