Spanish 3 or Physics

Clemson prefers 3 foreign language credits. I go to a relatively small high school in Tennessee. The only Spanish 3 class is being offered in the same block as the only Calculus-based Physics class. I am a senior in high school with my schedule completely full. I have to choose between the two. If I was not planning on being an Engineering major, this would not be a concerning issue. I think that the Physics would be better for me as an Engineering major, but I don’t know Clemson’s policy about those foreign language credits. I read that 3 is preferable but they will take an explanation from a guidance counselor regarding why 3 were not taken. But I don’t know if “Because I thought Physics was better for me” will count as a valid excuse. It would really help if anyone could help me figure out the best course of action.

I am visiting in September, and I will have already sent in my application by then. There is no rush I have a few weeks to fix my schedule.

Thanks Y’all!

I was accepted into Clemson and I only had 2 foreign language classes. I went in as a chemistry major. I had to
take two years of physics and I hated it. Taking physics in high school will give you a head start. I didn’t take it in high school and I was confused. Your best bet is to just call and ask. That’s what I did.

Thank you for your input! I will do that.

I called Clemson and asked. The counselor said that they are very flexible with the third language credit, so I be taking the Physics. In addition, I would highly recommend that if any of y’all have questions about this sort of thing, just call and ask. The admission counselor I talked to was very very nice and incredibly helpful. I was also shocked by how easy it was. It took about 5 minutes, and now I know for sure what I should be doing.
