I am thinking about majoring in biology in college. I was wondering if I should take Physics (more relevant to my major, and 4th year of science) or spanish 3 (a third year of spanish is recommended). Are colleges going want me to take classes more relevant to what i want to major in or are they going to want the recommended years of classes?
BTW it's also 3 years recommended for sciences (i already took bio, chem, and AP bio)

Probably Spanish since 3 years of languages is recommended and you already had science. But it doesn’t really matter for admission, I don’t think. Take whichever one you want.

Take both.

Where do you want to apply to?

Taking physics shows you are serious about science and not afraid of a challenge. As a HS science dept. head, I spend a lot of time convincing talented kids that physics is not the bogeyman they think it’s going to be. AP Bio, Anatomy, Env. science, etc. may be more warm and fuzzy as compared to Physics, but students tend to overload in the biological sciences and ignore the physical sciences.

Just my opinion as someone ‘in the field’

i’m going to apply to Cal Poly SLO, UCSC, San Diego State, and a few others

Ideally take both. If you can’t fit both into your schedule, could you take one online? If it were me and I could only take one, I’d go for Physics.

yeah I’m leaning towards physics, hopefully not taking spanish won’t hurt me too bad during admissions

Take both if you can. But if you have to choose one, I would recommend physics, too. I’m not sure without the 3rd of FL is really going to hurt you. But I’ve seen quite some posts in others treads they’re OK with 2 years in state campus majoring in science.

What I want to add here is taking physics is really for your own benefits. As MAdad addressed eariler, physics is different. It trains you solving problems at a different approach. If you’ll have to take physics in college, it’s a very good prep; If you don’t have to take physics in college, this might be your last chance. Many high school students tend to avoid physics if they can. My daughter is going to major in business in college, but I still adviced her taking all the big 3 (Bio, Chem, Physics). She went ahead to go for Physics AP last year as a junior. It’s very challenging and she was struggling at the beginning. But she told me it’s very rewarding after the year ended. All the labs are fun, she can relate the stuff with daily life, solve the problem in a complicated approach. She learned a lot!

I honestly would go with Spanish. If you took challenging courses in the sciences before hand, I think you’ll be okay. Most schools like to see you going beyond the typical two years of FL.

I think you should really try to take both. If I were you I would pick Physics except for that colleges like to see more than just 2 years of a language. 2 years is basic, but they like to see you get more in depth with your language.
