Spanish Credits

Hello!
I am an upcoming sophomore. Freshman year, I took Spanish 1 and got 100 percent. So, this summer I decided to take Spanish 102 at the nearby community college. Usually, Spanish 102 is equivalent to the third year of a high school Spanish. I had to challenge the prerequisite and go through a bunch of steps in order to get this class. Do you think that colleges will see this as three years worth of a world language? I am not the biggest fan of spanish, but I want to make sure that I am set up to apply to college (with the three years recommended of world language) before not signing up for the next level course at the community college. Thanks for your help!

If you are in California, you can check what UCs and CSUs consider the college Spanish course as https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist .

Otherwise, it may need to be explained somehow what the equivalency is between your high school and that college’s Spanish courses.

Thank you for replying. I am in California. The course is A-G approved and is LOTE level 3. Also, it is UC honors. So, does this mean colleges will see me as having 3 years completed of spanish?

Yes, UCs and CSUs will consider that as “3 years”. For other colleges, you may have to explain or have it explained what the equivalency between the college course and high school Spanish levels is.

Some of the most selective colleges want to see “4 years”.
