Special circumstance question

I sent in my special circumstance form and essay about 2 months ago. A month ago I received a scholarship which should cover half of the yearly tuition. Even with this added to my initial offer, maximum stafford + workstudy, I still will require additional funding. As a independant undergrad I'm ineligible for a PLUS loan to cover living expenses. I have asked on this board a few times the criteria necessary to establish eligiblity for a EFC readjustment based on my unemployed status. Everything I have read both here and from other sources indicate that I am eligible for a very low EFC, should my circumstances be accounted for properly. I am very very nervous that the FA administrator my not make the proper adjustments.

I'm counting on getting a Pell grant and a NJ TAG grant, which SHOULD allow my EFC to be readjusted to account for my dislocated status. Is is acceptable to contact the person who is overseeing my allotment? I found out the persons name and their email, would this be considered lobbying or a questioning their professional judgement ? What would be the best way to reiterate to this administrator how reliant I shall be on those grants?

I believe this is something that is at the discretion of each college. You need to contact YOUR college and discuss your situation with a financial aid person there. I’m not sure anyone here can give you a more specific answer than you will get from your financial aid office.

It sounds like your school already made an adjustment to your financial aid based on your special circumstances letter. If there are other circumstances to explain to them, do so…ASAP.
