Special Interest/EC Rec- Who should I ask?

I'm wondering if I should ask my math team coach whom I've known for five years (we are REALLY close and he loves me), or my swim coach. The problem is, I'm asking the director of the math camp I've went to for my personal rec. Will boarding schools look more favorably at an applicant with two math related recs or an applicant with one math rec and one swim rec?

Frankly, I think my math coach will write a better rec than my swim coach just because I'm closer to him. However, my swim coach likes me because I'm one of the fastest swimmers on the team. The thing is, she doesn't seem like the type to like to write a really detailed, glowing recommendation...

What should I do?

Thanks.

I personally think that you should go for the math coach rec. If your specialty is math, then by all means show the schools you are applying to that math is your specialty! (and based off of your username, you are quite interested in math)

Thank you for your advice!

Agree. If your math teacher is going to write a better rec, then go for it.

If you want your swim coach to write it, you could provide her with a summary of what you would like included, either bullet points, or paragraph format, that she could use to jog her memory.

I think the arena to which they are writing is more important than their job function. In other words, the recommendation will be written from the perspective of an adult authority figure who can comment on you from the context of working with students outside of the formal school setting. The specific setting matters, but not as much as the interpersonal interactions outside of school, which is what they will be addressing. Use whomever you feel will better represent you to the schools.
