Specialty letter of recommendation?

<p>A US senator offered to write me a letter of rec. I have actually known this senator both personally and professionally (family friend now after initially meeting through volunteering) for my entire high school career, so it's not super random.</p>

<p>Would such a letter be helpful in admissions? How should I include it in my applications, both CommonApp and to individual schools?</p>

<p>The worth of a LOR is what it says about you, not the person who writes it. If you feel he knows you and can share something illuminating about you, fine. It may be an instance where the Sen. may feel his name is more important than it is.</p>
