<p>Does nayone do speech and debate at Cornell? If so, acn you tell me how active the team is and how good the program is? I have looked Cornell up on the internet but i ma getting conflicting reports. One college debater told me that the Cornell team never does anything while the web site says they went to Botswana. I really love speech and Debate and i want to compete in college.</p>
<p>Hi, I’m a current freshman and I just joined the Speech team this semester. From what I’ve seen both Speech and Debate have had a really good year.</p>
<p>When you say speech and debate, I feel like you mean speech team…as opposed to their policy team. I don’t know anything about the speech world though.</p>
<p>Policy, their A team is ranked 7th in the nation. They’re sending 2 teams to the NDT. That’s a good indicator of a solid squad and coaching staff, so I wouldn’t downplay them. </p>

<p>Yeah, I do policy in hs and I was wondering what Corell’s debate team is like. I’ve never even heard of a Cornell debate team during my years in debate in hs, so I did a lil’ research.</p>

<p>Thank you guys. I am sorry about all the spelling mistakes. I type one-handed and my typing proficiency is low. How is the Extemp team at Cornell? I have a friend who does parliamentary debate and she was not impressed with them.</p>
<p>My son emailed the coach a few years ago and set up a meeting with him when we visited the campus. We both really liked him and he gave us very straightforward opinions about his program as well as several others. He did say he does not try to influence admissions decisions whereas some other coaches definitely helped my son get into their schools.</p>

<p>I’m currently a member of Cornell’s policy debate team and would love to answer questions from anyone interested in speech & debate at Cornell.</p>
<p>To briefly handle some of the previous discussion:
Cornell’s team has one of the most active travel schedules in the country-- our Worlds/British Parliamentary team does a fair amount of national and international travel, including WUDC Botswana this year and Turkey last year. Our policy debate team travels to virtually all major national tournaments and regional tournaments, including Harvard, Wake, Kentucky, Cal, Northwestern, CEDA, and the NDT.
Both worlds and policy reached the “sweet 16” of respective national championships this year and had numerous success in novice and JV debate as well, including novice champion at US Universities. We also qualified 2 teams to the NDT and finished 4th in the national CEDA rankings.</p>
