Speed Reading and Study Strategies Program

Anybody have experience with the class? I received an e-mail from UCSD about this program. It is actually a third party program. UCSD provides a place for the classes to take place. It seems extremely appealing. Thanks in advance.

i think my time would be better spent actually studying than learning how to study.

(i think equally poorly of TA-training classes; oftentimes it's real-world practice and use that teaches you the necessary skillset.)

Anyone else receive this letter and seriously considering the program. It costs $299.00 for the class, $23.00 for the materials, and for tax $1.78 tax.

i got the letter, but im not going to do it

i already read fast enough and think its a waste of money

well, i mean does anyone know someone who has previously done the program? because I called in to inquire and apparently they have this program at a lot of different colleges as well, and has been doing this at UCSD for 4 years? because it sounds good, but also sounds a bit too good with their claims, and the price tag it just too high in my opinion

one of my friends took it. he said he doesn’t think it’s worth it. for him it didn’t work.
he said he also didn’t read that much after she took the class so he didn’t have the chance to practice it. he told me that it didn’t work out for him because they tell you to read with quick glances and he’s a little OCD and has to make sure he read everything.

so there ya go. that’s only one person though, so wait for more opinions before you make your decision.

if you seriously wanna increase reading speed, try reading the Series of unfortunate Events or some other light reading material and read line by line instead of word for word.

Like Astrina said, just study. Ask friends how they study, ask here how cc-ers study, etc. Of course, not everyone’s method will work for all. The thing about the program that bothers me is “speed reading”. Do you need that? How will this help you in college? Really. I’m thinking it only comes in handy when you need to read a book you’ve been putting off, and now you need to turn in a paper due the following day… You should have been reading the book since it was assigned.

So instead of these $100+ programs and classes, just learn and understand how not to procrastinate and manage time wisely.

I got the letter also but I will pass!
