Intro - I just finished my junior year of high school, heading into senior year after the summer, and I live in northern California.

Today I was caught speeding 83 mph on a 65 mph highway while driving some friends on my way to a football camp, before my license year was over. So they got me for speeding AND transporting minors before my year was over (it gets over August 9th). I'll go to court in a couple weeks to see what happens to my license/insurance etc etc. But what I'm worried about is, if I am found guilty and get a ticket, will this affect my admission in any colleges I want to go to? Can colleges look up minor traffic violations like this, and if they can, will my chances of admittance be lowered?? Other than this I have a perfectly clean record, 2290 SAT, unweighted cumulative 4.0 GPA (valedictorian probably), football & track and field all 4 years, and some clubs and whatnot (national honor society, school legislative council, etc). I'm also interning at NASA this summer. I guess I'm aiming for UCLA / UC Berkeley, and maybe some privates like Stanford or MIT.

Any help, advice, or knowledge concerning this matter would be greatly appreciated - thank you. I am really freaking out right now.

When asking the background questions including those dealing with criminal activity or your record, they usually tell you to disregard any minor traffic offenses. I can’t speak for California traffic laws but back here in the midwest speeding (unless really excessive) is a minor violation worth two points.

I wouldn’t worry about it for college admissions. I would be more concerned with the unintended chance and possible results of an accident and the tragedy that could result for you, your parents, family, school, and your friends. Please, slow down so you can enjoy the admissions process and your future!

…you serious? haha yea colleges won’t even see that but your insurance is literally gonna be absolutely ridiculous. your parents might be a tad angry at that

The only time you can be asked about traffic misdemeanors (excluding DUIs) is if you’re applying for a job that involves driving. You won’t have to reveal this information on college or most job applications.
