Spirit Card

What is the Spirit Card at USC? Can anyone explain the details-how to get one, fees, how it is used?

It isn't really ever called spirit card- instead, it is a USC Card. This card is basically your passport to USC. It holds your meal plans, allows you access to your dorm, can hold discretionary funds, which can be used for things on campus (like the bookstore, milk shakes at Ground Zero cafe, and prescriptions at the pharmacy), and acts as your ticket into football games if you have a student pass. You get one free during orientation- the only fees are if you lose it. Here is the website: USCard Services - "Your Passport to Excellence"

maybe the OP was talking about what used to be called the "Spirit Activities Card," now the "Football Season Ticket"? if that's the case, you get one online...as a freshman, you'll get an email as to when you can buy it and can buy it sometime during the summer. it's $145 this year. to use it, just show up to the Coliseum in your desired USC gear, get your card scanned/swiped by one of the people at the student-section gates, and watch USC pummel anyone who comes into their house :D

Just curious - do students get worked up about any other sports at USC, or just football? Any prominent women's sports that actually attract student fans?

Do students need a similar season ticket to go to basketball games?

Thanks!

USC Basketball is pretty big too, and all you need is your student ID (no extra fee required anymore). The women's soccer team won nationals last year, but I'm not sure how many students actually go to the games.

Thanks Lindsay. Maybe the basketball following will grow now that Lil Romeo is joining the team :)

Nice to know, my D loves watching basketball games.

The new Galen Center (for basketball, volleyball, and other events) is very nice so hopefully, the kids will go there to see that. It is next door to the Radisson and across the street from New/North. I saw a taping of College Jeopardy last year in there so I know they have other special events in there.

Football is king at 'SC. Men's Basketball is really starting to take off as well thanks to the Galen Center, and actually being good. On the women's side, Volleyball has a pretty good following.

Speaking of sports, if students are not on any sort of team, can they participate informally? The pool is open to everyone right? Are there particular hours that are off limits to non team members? Are there lots of opportunities to exercise, work out, get involved?

sequoia- there are plenty of club teams to get involved with and yes there are many opportunities to exercise.

My daughter participated in club tennis. They just finished 5th in the country. I believe that there are lots of sport club teams. Oh...and SC does encourage kids to start their own clubs. I believe that club tennis is only 4 or 5 years old.

S is on a rec indoor soccer team. He just got together a group of friends and signed up- lots of fun!
