I got 175 on my LSAT, but it looks like my graduating GPA will be around 3.1. I was wondering what schools would be reasonable to apply to and whether retaking a semester to improve my GPA would be advisable.

Thanks,
TJC

I think you just have to go for broke; toss the pasta against the wall and see what sticks. What’s the worse that could happen, they say no. Unfortunately splitter cycles are hard to predict. If you do not apply, you have a 0% chance of being admitted.

With a 175, take advantage of the fee waivers that you will be sent (this way each app, will cost you about $12). Applying really, really early in the cycle is definitely to your benefit. You may be able to get into Duke (priority track admissions), I would say Cornell, Georgetown. If the rest of your application is tight, and you are early in the cycle, you could possibly get $ from Vandy, Wash U, Notre Dame, etc. Also check out law school numbers, plug in your numbers and you will get an idea of where students with your numbers were accepted.

UVA ED as soon as applications open is probably your best bet. Up until this year, you would have been a shoe in, but UVA ED for splitters was a bit more of a black box this year. They are usually friendlier to A. engineering majors and B. those with a couple years or more out of undergrad.

You also have a fairly good shot at Georgetown RD, but UVA>GTown. You could also get lots of scholarship $ from schools just below the T14. But you may also be rejected at some of those schools due to a “GPA floor.”

Or you can work for 2 years and get into Northwestern.

That just about covers it.

from what I have been reading on top law schools, I think LSU is giving you good advice. UVA ED may be your best bet.
Also agree with Sybbie- apply to many schools as no one can tell you for sure what the result will be- but with a 175 you should have some very nice choices.

Unfortunately, though, Northwestern primarily accepts applicants with work experience.

ED UVA as soon as apps open and start packing your bags for CVille.
