Spn 601d

How is SPN 601D at UT? Im debating on whether to take a spanish placement test or not. I'm trying to keep my GPA as high as possible so I can transfer into McCombs. Thanks!

From what I hear if you plan on transferring into something like McCombs you might want to save your GPA by not taking SPN 601D. My cousin spoke spanish when she was at UT and only managed to get a C in the class. I know of plenty of other people who also knew spanish and still managed to barely pass the class.

Oh man. Well I want Spanish to be my minor so maybe I’ll focus on that after I get into McCombs lol. Thanks!

On the Spanish placement test, do you get credits for the course you test out of?

If you want to minor in Spanish, why are you starting with 601D? Have you not taken AP Spanish in high school? If you have not, then Spanish will be an absolute bear at UT.

My school does not offer AP Spanish, but I have taken 4 years of it in High School. As of right now, Spanish is my major. But I’m trying to transfer into the business school so I might hold off on the Spanish in offer to keep my GPA as high as possible.

Jake,

As I and texex have stated to you on previous occasions:

If you are trying to get into McCombs, do NOT take anything that could potentially cause you to have a low GPA…this includes Calculus, Economics, Foreign Languages.

To be honest, your schedule for the first two semesters before you apply to McCombs’ should consist of VAPA, Government, History, and RHE courses. You should knock out the prerequisite classes at ACC or another Community college so they don’t hurt your UT GPA.

I apologize if I’ve asked the same thing before. I’m just a little reluctant and worried about taking a year off of learning Spanish in fear that I would forget a lot of it. Since Spanish is a big part of what I want to do.

No apologies necessary.

Most importantly, do what YOU want to do…you’re the one attending and paying tuition. We’re here to help give advice…you don’t have to follow it exactly if it conflicts with your interests.

Spanish is a killer because it is 6 credit hours…so if you register for that course, be prepared to treat it like two classes.

Another viable alternative would be to take the equivalent of SPN 601D at a community college over the summer between your freshman and sophomore years at UT. While it would not be as rigorous as UT, it would refresh your skills. Then, you could take SPN 601D your sophomore year. I would not advise taking SPN 601D at a CC and claiming credit for it. You would then be behind/ill prepared for SPN 610/611D.
