If someone is interested in playing a sport while at the academy, such as football or baseball, what do they do to get themselves ready for the tryouts of that sport. Will you get time to practice during BCT, or do you have to just go out and tryout without getting to work on their game? And if you do get an opportunity to workout, where do you keep your equipment if needed?

Unfortunately for the athletes, BCT is BCT. You won't really have a chance to play your sport until the academic year starts up. The coaches realize this though, of course, so they probably expect a bit of rust among the newly accepted freshmen.

Like PETKO said you dont really get a chance to practice or prepare yourself for tryouts. However during the first few days of BCT and again at the end their will be athletic meeting where you can at least let the coach of said sport aware of your interest to tryout for the team. This will put you on list of fellow 12'ers who are thinking of trying out and allows the coaches to keep you informed. However if you are serious about trying out for a team I suggest contacting the coach before you arrive here so it will be easier for you guys to hookup during basic. It will also show the coach that your serious about it.

The head women's tennis coach told me that there would be ten opportunities for me to play during basic. I don't know if that only applies to recruited athletes or not.

...uh, generally no.
There will be intramurals, as far as I know. That's about it. To me, that is a waste of training time. There is so much that is not covered or barely touched on in BCT...and it's still pretty busy.

I think there may be some getting with the "Team" for the recruited athletes. I heard some similar stuff that USAFA10 heard from the football coaches. Maybe it's only with recruited athletes. Also, it may only really apply to fall sports because the season starts pretty much as soon as the academic year starts. They may want some time together to see if certain freshman athletes may be of some use to them immediately after BCT.

I don't know exactly how is works. It may be a couple of times when BCT is doing Jack's. Again I do not know. But the coaches did mention "possibly" being pulled out a couple of hours here and there during BCT. Not sure if it's everyone in that sport or if it's a player by player basis. Again; not sure if it's only for sports that are in full practice or similar. I guess that you all will find out soon enough.

Well, the coach told me that we would definitely get a chance to play, but like Christcorp said, that may be just a fall sport or recruited athletes thing. The coach also mentioned that it would probably be during intramurals.

Getting pulled out for a few hours during BCT? My Basic flight had nearly 10 recruited athletes last year, and NONE of them ever just "left". And some recruits (like Football) just go and lift during intramurals in Basic.

BTW, recruits are told every year that they will be pulled out every now and again for "practice", but they're just talking about intramurals (which, like I said, is just lifting for some). You will not get to practice your sport much, if at all during Basic.

Thanks for the clarification Falcon. That makes a lot more sense. Doing it during intramural sounds like a more practical explanation.
