Sports life, good school, by the water if possible

It will also be pretty cold at BC and NW.

College of Charleston? Division I in Basketball, science programs are pretty solid and it has terrific DI sailing teams. 10 minutes to the ocean and the campus is right smack in one of the most beautiful cities in America. Just a suggestion…

Excellent suggestion. CoC completely slipped my mind, but it is definitely one of the schools I wish I knew more about when I was applying to colleges.

The cold is so exaggerated. Boston and Chicago are major US cities and millions of people live there and do just fine. And the weather difference between Chicago and NY is greatly exaggerated. It’s pretty much the same thing.

^^^So very true! I don’t hear much complaining here on CC on how cold the ivy league schools are in winter.

Really? While UNC certainly has a stronger basketball history, I’d happily argue that the football atmosphere at BC dwarfs that at Chapel Hill and that the hockey support far outweighs UNCs lacrosse. While Northwestern certainly has a strong emphasis on academics it’s also hard to ignore their national titles in womens sports and the fact that they are part of the Big 10+.

What is the vibe like at College of Charleston? As far as preppy/not, liberal/conservative, intellectual/party, rich/middle class. Thanks!

Clemson Univeristy…good sports, good academics, near Lake Hartwell for sailing.

You are right about hockey/lacrosse, but I’m not sure about football. I have a friend who goes to BC and he said that football support is usually quite tepid. UNC, in contrast, sold out every home game last year and will likely do the same this coming year.

BC’s best sport is hockey, but football is huge also. i don’t think “tepid” is the best word to use.

definitely Clemson.

Good school? #22 public university last year
Good sports? Football team made it to the ACC championship game, Baseball made it to the semifinals of the College World Series, our football stadium can pack 80,000 people
Water and sailing? We have a sailing club and we’re less than 5 minutes from Lake Hartwell.

Let me know if you have any questions about Clemson!

Second Northwestern- closer to the water than any other school in the country- just a little hard to use some of the year. And don’t knock our football. Just turn on Big Ten Network in 10 minutes! :D

I’m a bit stymied by the water aspect of this request, but for the record, the premier colleges for combinations of top academics and nationally competitive/relevant athletics are the following:

Privates: Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, Rice, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame

Honorable Mention: Georgetown, Wake Forest, Boston College

Publics: UC Berkeley, U Virginia, UCLA, U Michigan, U North Carolina

Honorable Mention: Georgia Tech, W&M, U Wisconsin, U Illinois, Penn State, U Florida, U Texas

I’m a bit stymied by the mention of W&M on the list but not even Clemson :)

just kidding haha

born a tarheel, here’s some information on the Clemson sailing club: [Home - The Clemson Sailing Club](http://www.clemsonsailing.org/)

Definitely, there is sailing on the SF bay. Stanford works for sailing and sports.
