Sports Management Programs-Admissions

I’m a current junior in HS, and I know I want to major in sports management, does anyone know how hard it is to get into the sports management programs at these schools (the schools I’m interested in). It could be the difficulty to get into them compared to other programs or just in general, just looking for any information I can get.

UT-Austin (Top School/Dream School)
University of Michigan
UNC-Chapel Hill
University of Cincinnati (Safety)
Northwestern
U of Miami (FL)
Michigan State
Rice
Tulane (I think they have a sports law program which I’d be interested in, not sure if it’s graduate or undergrad)
U of Florida
Penn State
Indiana

Thank you!

Northwestern does not have sport management at the undergraduate level.

At Rice, once you are in, you can major in anything you want (with the exception of music and architecture). The Sport Management program involves students with organizations in Houston beginning your first semester. The challenge is getting into Rice - it is really getting hard to get into Rice. In general, state schools have larger programs and are not able to focus on their undergraduate students that much. Texas is great, it is a lot of fun, you have a lot of smart people around you, but it is large and it is easy to get lost within a program. If you want to maximize success at a large state school, you just need to be very proactive getting in front of your professors. That goes for all schools but the smaller schools typically are able to spend more time truly developing students than the large schools.

@smgc1210 but do you think that the program at UT is easier to get into then others like Engineering, McCombs (Business) or Film that UT is known for? And thanks for the info about Rice. I visited there but basically everyone on the tour wanted to major in engineering or something science related. At first it didn’t seem like a good fit, but Houston is a great sports town, I have family there. I don’t know if I would be able to get in though.

The program at UT is not difficult to get into. If you can get into UT, you can get into the program there. There are more opportunities in the sports field than Texas, but Austin has plenty of opportunities as well starting with the UT Athletic program.
