Sports Management Schools

Im really interested in a sports management program. The schools im looking at right now are FSU,UGA,and Elon. I heard Ithaca and Flagler have a good ones so i might look at those. Can someone rank these 5 in order of the best SM programs please? and what big schools in CA have good SM programs

I've also heard great things about Ithaca.

I don't know enough about each one to rank, but UGA wouldn't be a bad option either - the academics are strong and nothing beats instate tuition.

As for California...try San Diego State. I'm not 100% sure that they have sports management, but I think they do (I think I recall hearing something about it at one point).

ok thanks. i'll check it out

san diego state has Kinesiology but not with an emphasis in sports management

USC and Bama

Sounds like an interesting field.

I found this article:
<a href="http://education-portal.com/articles/Top_Schools_for_Sport_and_Fitness_Management.html%5B/url%5D">http://education-portal.com/articles/Top_Schools_for_Sport_and_Fitness_Management.html</a></p>

Mentions Taylor University, U Florida, and U Tulsa.

thanks for the info.

University of Oregon, University of Miami, Washington State University, University of Miami

oh ok..i thought oregon had a great sports marketing program not management

Check out Pepperdine-they have a Sports Management Program and also have highly respected communications degree which would make ideal double major or major/minor combination.

USC, U of Florida, University of Miami

pepperdine only has sports medicine

University of Oregon is supposedly the best program in the country. UO also has the best connections with Nike. And plus the Ducks are great at pretty much every sport and they're in the PAC-10. Sports Illustrated named them the best for sports management as well.

<a href="http://lcb.uoregon.edu/news/news.php?issue=110102&story=best%5B/url%5D">http://lcb.uoregon.edu/news/news.php?issue=110102&story=best</a></p>

Towson University has a sports management program.

thanks for the info

U Mass-Amherst has always been the measuring stick for top-notch sports management programs. Highly recommended. Would also recommend Ohio University in Athens, which has produced by far the most athletic directors in the country. These two shine amongst the rest in terms of alumni and jobs. Oregon is a great program if you're looking for Sport Marketing. Schools that have fantastic grad programs in SM include the above schools in addition to Arizona State and Central Florida.

Four words:

University of South Carolina

Another idea - even if a school doesn't have sports management, you could always just major in business or communications with a minor in something athleticly related (such as exercise science, athletic training, sport studies, etc.).

That idea doesn't help you when it comes to getting internships, developing connections and having an alumni network in the sporting industry. The sporting industry is different than other industries - you don't get paid jack, it's impossible to get a job by just submitting an application, and you're kidding yourself if you think that employers are going to come looking for you. Getting a business degree is a death sentence if you want to work in the sporting industry unless you already have connections, which then you should be fine.
