Sports Management vs. Econ undergrad degree

Sports Management vs. Econ undergrad degree

Hi I am currently a student at the University of Michigan and I am having issues deciding what to major in with my plans being set on a top-MBA in the future. A Ross BBA is not possible since its an entirely different process and I am a bit late for it.

My choice is between Economics and Sports Management. I love sports and business/management and I feel like it's the right major for me, but I am afraid MBA admissions will look down on it. Economics is not really my passion and it has a reputation of difficulty at UofM that is the biggest thing keeping me away; however, Economics would probably get me a better job and might be looked upon more favorably when I apply for my MBA.

What are you suggestions?

Getting into a top MBA program will come only after you have several years of experience. I you are interested in Sports Management you have to figure out how to break into that niche industry. I believe that most of the positions are marketing related and pay relatively poorly. If you are able rise to a position of some ability in the Sports industry then the MBA schools would probably look favorably on your application. But, it’s not going to happen if you don’t progress past handing out T shirts and flyers at sporting events.
