Sports vs Legacy

If you want to get into WashU, play sports. Legacy means nothing to WashU.

Check out their Division III titles Washington University Athletics

When I attended WashU from 77-82, there was no emphasis on sports. Since Mark Wrighton became chancellor in 1995, WashU has won 8 Div III championships, seven of those since 1998. They only had 6 previous to that with the first in 1989.

Personally, I'm glad the school has great sports teams. It matters to many. I went to a Division 1 School and have fantastic memories of the sports around me, and I didn't play (couldn't play) nor did I even know all the rules. But each win still made me proud, as did the classmates who ended up winning Emmy's and Oscar's. They weren't my achievements, but we had shared background.

A friend of mine from high school was an ok football player, and not a very bright guy. He got into Wash U. and Washington & Lee because of football, but didn't get into Georgia, even though he was a legacy. Now he goes to Pepperdine, for some reason. They don't even have a football team.

ehhh that may not be so true. I have pretty good grades with APs and a 1320 on my SAT. I applied as a football recruit and got wait-listed. I am a pretty good recruit I am walking on to UM. Hopefully I will hear good news in May!

How is the soccer team at Wash U? Does anyone know? Apparently they've done really well last year? I'm seriously considering joining again, but I haven't played in years, so I'm probably quite out-of-shape. I'm guessing that they offer some pretty rigorous training?
